Despite knowing that this is a fictional love, there is a steady stream of tourists that come from all over the world, just for a glimpse of Juliet and Romeo’s romance place. Juliet’s House itself was built in the 13th century. The dell Capello family owned the house on Via Capello for many years. In fact, it is the similarity of their name that spurned the popular belief that this was the house of the Capulets in Shakespeare’s play. The dell Capello’s coat-of-arms can still be seen on the keystone of the inner archway in the courtyard.

Perhaps the hot spot of the visit would be the 20th bronze statue of Juliet in the courtyard. The atmosphere on a romantic Verona night, watching Aida, Carmen or Tosca, is like nowhere else. And the quite unique nature of the event makes it a magnet for the major names in opera (and from the other performing arts). Recent guest directors have included legendary Italian film director Franco Zefferelli, with his production of Verdi’s Il Trovatore. But also other world famous personalities are in the list of visitors, including former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder. If you are a fan of opera, be sure not to miss this event!

Piazza delle Erbe

After listening to the opera, let us guide you for a walk to Piazza delle Erbe, the vibrant heart of Verona. Restaurants with tables and chairs in the street, shops with souvenirs, small places that sell fresh fruits and vegetables are set up in the middle of the square every day. It is 84 metres in height and in addition to its alternating bands of tufa and brick-work, the Venetians added certain features in the 16th century and raised the tower to its present height.
